Why cylindrical batteries have number names

Cylindrical battery sizes carry number names that buyers learn to read as a shorthand for a physical size. The names on this site run from small sizes such as 10440 and 14500 through the widely used 18650 to larger sizes such as 21700 and 26650. The names are useful because they let a buyer, a supplier and a warehouse talk about the same physical object without a long description, but they are only a shorthand: the full specification behind any size must still be confirmed title by title.

A buyer new to cylindrical batteries should learn the size names in the context of the device, not as an abstract list. The device compartment decides which sizes are physically possible, and the charger decides which of those sizes can actually be charged. A size name that fits neither the compartment nor the charger is not a candidate, however familiar the name may be.

Small, mid-size and large cylindrical sizes

Small cylindrical sizes, including 10440, 14430, 14500, 14650, 16340, 18350 and 18500, serve compact devices where space is tight. The 18650 size is the mid-size workhorse of the range, with the most titles on the company website. Larger sizes, 21700 and 26650, serve equipment that needs a larger cylindrical cell. Those three bands are a practical way to think about the range, but the bands are a guide for shortlisting, not a substitution rule: a larger size is not a bigger version of a smaller size for ordering purposes.

Within each band, chemistry families still matter. The 3.7V family covers most of the cylindrical titles on this site, but the 3.2V lithium iron phosphate family and the cylindrical USB rechargeable family also contain cylindrical titles. A buyer should therefore name both the size and the family in an enquiry, and ask the supplier to confirm the combination.

Buying cylindrical batteries without errors

The most common cylindrical buying error is ordering the right chemistry in the wrong size, or the right size in the wrong chemistry. Both errors are prevented by the same discipline: quote the size, quote the family, quote the listing title exactly as published, and ask for confirmation of the full specification before payment. Where an old battery is being replaced, its size family and any printed wording should be quoted in the enquiry.

Storage and handling also deserve a question in the enquiry, particularly for larger quantities. Ask how the batteries should be stored before use and what packaging applies to the order, and confirm those answers in writing alongside the specification, quantity terms and lead time.

Planning reference for quantity and lead time

Orders in this trade are commonly discussed in the low thousands of pieces for standard cells, and lead times are commonly measured in weeks once a specification has been agreed. Those are trade planning figures, not this company's published policy: the company's own website does not publish a minimum order quantity or a lead time. Before you place an order, please confirm the quantity terms and the lead time that apply to your listing, in writing, and please do not treat this paragraph as a price or delivery promise.

Prices are not published on this site. Please ask for a quotation against the exact listing title, and please confirm the specification, the quantity terms and the lead time before payment.
